After the rifling became worn, it was smooth bored to be used as a fowling piece, like many other Pennsylvania rifles. The rifle was assembled in the United States using a British Trade percussion lock made by JOSEPH GOLCHER of KING STREET, DARLASTON in STAFFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND, who worked from 1834 to 1865.
